Daptomycin MIC distribution against MRSA isolates (n=8981) in the US (2002-2007)2

MIC=minimum inhibitory concentration.
*Between September 2003 and April 2005, single lots of Mueller-Hinton broth used for susceptibility testing by the SENTRY surveillance program contained suboptimal amounts of calcium, approximately 20% less than levels recommended by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI). This methodological error resulted in an increase in daptomycin MIC values of approximately one 2-fold dilution across all
S. aureus subsets tested during 2004. Analysis of the SENTRY surveillance data from prior (2002-2003) and subsequent years (2005-2007) supports the hypothesis.
